Jazz Society – SLHS
Jazz Society is the high school’s A level Jazz Band. It is an audition only Jazz Band directed by Band Directory, Larry Fisher. Auditions are held in late fall and audition dates are announced in band and orchestra class. A student typically must be a part of either band or orchestra to try out for jazz band. Jazz Society rehearses two times per week after school beginning in the late fall. Jazz Society is an award-winning group that competes and performs from January to February. A student that makes it into Jazz Society must have time in their schedule to attend practices and weekend performances.
Jazz Trane – SLHS
Jazz Trane is the high school’s B level Jazz Band. It is an audition only Jazz Band directed by Band Directory, Larry Fisher. Auditions are held in late fall and audition dates are announced in band and orchestra class. A student typically must be a part of either band or orchestra to try out for jazz band. Jazz Trane rehearses two times per week after school beginning in the late fall. Jazz Trane performs at the SLHS spring concert and District Jazz Festival. A student that makes it into Jazz Trane must have time in their schedule to attend practices and the spring concerts.
Jazz Band – SLMS
The SLMS Jazz Band is an audition only Jazz Band directed by MS Band Director, Jeff Loda. Auditions are held in the late fall and are announced in band and orchestra, and students typically must be a part of either band or orchestra to audition for jazz band. The MS Jazz band rehearses two times per week beginning early winter. The MS Jazz band typically competes one-two competitions and performs at the MS spring band/instrumental concert and the District Jazz Festival. A student that makes it into MS Jazz Band must have the time in their schedule to attend practices and performances.
Jazz Band – SLIS
The SLIS Jazz Band is for 5th and 6th grade students and is an audition only Jazz Band directed by IS Band Director, Vera Marston. Auditions are held in the late fall and are announced in band and orchestra, and students typically must be a part of either band or orchestra to audition for jazz band. The IS Jazz band rehearses beginning early winter. The IS Jazz Band performs at the IS spring band/instrumental concert and the District Jazz Festival. A student that makes it into IS Jazz Band must have the time in their schedule to attend practices and performances.
